Here’s proof my thumb isn’t completely black:

A post-Christmas Amaryllis.

Mama K’s favorite Christmas gift is an Amaryllis kit, and we lovingly put ours up right after Thanksgiving.  We keep our home pretty chilly, so it took a little longer than usual, but now the plant is flowering like crazy and brightening up our whiskey bar.  It’s a much-needed bright spot at this time of winter.

What a beauty! For a few years, I planted the bulb outside in the summer in a sunny location and fed it lots of fertilizer. In the fall I brought it in and let it rest for a few months. The bulb produced flowers for 5 years! What a day brightener! One year I forgot to plant it inside, so I planted it in the garden outside ~ the flowers appeared in July!
