Eric and I don’t do a lot of gifting at Christmas. We try to keep things low key and keep the pressure off. This year, I gave Eric a plan (yes, I made decisions!) for 12 date nights–one a month–for 2013. Last night we went on our first date night, a trip to the local wine bar. It was lovely. Really.
We have been so lucky to be able to go on date nights without having to pay for childcare, for the most part, due to the kindness and generosity of awesome friends. We put Jane to bed (she’s still going down at 7:00 p.m.!), then they come over to hang out at the house while we have wine (or dinner or dessert or whatever). We’re hoping that eventually we’ll be able to return the favor, since many of these friends haven’t had children yet but want to or are expecting. A kind of babysitting co-op. Sounds awesome, right?
It was a good start to what will surely be a great weekend. Mama and Papa K arrive tonight for a short visit, we have brunch with friends planned, Eric’s got a brew-date on Sunday afternoon, and I expect by Sunday evening we’ll even get a little downtime. Hope your’s is great, too!
