treasure hunting

I can’t believe it’s been a week since I last posted! The post-Easter craziness at work plus a quick trip to visit Mama and Papa K in rural Minnesota added up to a busy past few days. Life is calming down, however, and we’re getting back into a somewhat normal rhythm around the V house.

Visiting Minnesota was relaxing and fun. I don’t think I have ever been there without a single sibling around, so the quiet simplicity of this trip took a little bit of an adjustment. My parents didn’t hesitate to put us to work. Their love of remodeling and redecorating their big, 1890s house is fun to watch, but a little less fun to participate in. Eric’s muscles were a little angry with him after all the furniture moving, I think!

The fun part for me, though, is getting to rummage through their cast offs. Between their basement, attic, and above-garage loft, Mama and Papa K have lots of awesome treasures that are just screaming to be repurposed into something fun! Luckily for all of us, we had little room in our car to take anything serious back to Wisconsin, but we found a few storage items that will help gain some control of the outgrown baby gear and numerous toys. We also laid claim to a big white bookshelf that will look great in Jane’s big girl room when we decide it’s time to update the nursery and a little girl sized storage piece, just right for holding play food or doll clothes.

The most fun part for me was chatting with handyman extraordinaire Papa K, who is going to cut down a big media center into a manageable play kitchen with room for an oven, a stove, a sink, and a little cabinet space. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

  1. You can send Papa K over to my place anytime! That play kitchen project sounds great. Hope you can post some pics when it is done.

I will absolutely post pictures! Fingers crossed, Papa K will have the bones of the play kitchen done by the end of May, and Mama K will bring it and finish it off with me (paint, hardware, etc) sometime soon after. I am blessed to have such handy parents!
