crazy road trippin’

In 2012, we never got more than a four-day weekend away. I used up all my vacation days to eke out as much time at home with newborn Jane as I could that winter, which left, um, 10 more months of the year? We took as much time as we could manage, spent our summer weekends at the lake or invited family to come to us, savored any holidays thrown into the mix, and got through to 2013.

Needless to say, I’m ready for a full week of vacation! So we’re packing up and hitting the road in a few days. After losing Eric’s grandmother this spring, we have decided that visiting relatives is a priority for us. There are two living great-grandparents Jane has yet to meet, so they will be two stops on our journey. Then we’ll visit both sets of grandparents before we head back to south eastern Wisconsin. It’ll be a push to do it all in just nine days, but we’re very much looking forward to it.

The trouble is, of course, the cleaning and packing and preparing that needs to happen before we’re gone for that long. The middle-school-aged neighbor boy is going to water plants and “keep an eye on the place.” The produce needs to be eaten or given away. The diapers need to be washed. Provisions need to be procured. Add a funeral and two social engagements into the mix over the next forty-eight hours, and we’re a little stressed. I imagine we’ll need a vacation even more by the time we leave!
