St. Nick’s Day

December 6, 2013 by Ellen V

Growing up, we celebrated St. Nick’s Day sometimes. When my parents remembered. Or when it was convenient. We never fretted–it was usually a small observance, an unexpected surprise early in the holiday season.

In our little corner of Wisconsin, though, St. Nick’s Day isn’t just a holiday observed by Catholics, everyone really recognizes it! St. Nick visited this family last night, and it was fun to wake up to a few surprises for Jane: some holiday pajamas, a great Christmas book, and a fun cupcake ornament, representing one of her favorite things of the moment.

All the Christmas that’s going to be up is up, with the exception of maybe the stockings. A few cookie making evenings is the only thing that might add to the excitement. And perhaps I should get going on buying a few gifts? Maybe? It’s only December 6. All the time in the world!
